Children and Parents Reading Together

"I am Juan and I start the Children and Parent Reading Together Program on September 27th.
I go to Vineyards Elementary School Head Start and I started school for the first time on August 15th.

I am 4 years old and have not been to school before, not even Child Care. My Mom and Dad speak a little English, but we speak Spanish at home. My Dad works long hours and my Mom looks after me.

It is hard for me to write my own name.

Tomorrow my Mom will come to the school and we will read a book together, we will do this every week. After school, I can take the book home and Mom and me can read together before I go to sleep.

Thank you Literacy Volunteers of Collier County for helping me and my Mom to read and speak English, maybe Dad will join us at school one day."

Since English is not the first language for 24% of our Collier County students, (and significantly more of the Head Start students), this program is critical to their future.

Your $50 donation will be one of the keys to unlock the gift of English!

Beginning Tuesday, September 27th, LVCC's Children and Parents Reading Together program will start in six Collier County schools; Parkside, Avalon, Lely, Golden Terrace, Golden Gate and Vinyards. Sponsor a child for $50 and help pay for the books for Juan and other four year old children attending the program.
